چکیده

Human-centered computation is characterized by at least three features: it must be adaptive, reactive, and it must empower the user to configure and extend the behavior of the systems using her natural modes of interaction. In our previous work we have proposed systems that address the first two features. In this paper we present Alfred – a natural end user programming interface for Intelligent Environments.

Behavioral Considerations in Developing Web Information Systems: User-centered Design Agenda

The current paper explores designing a web information retrieval system regarding the searching behavior of users in real and everyday life. Designing an information system that is closely linked to human behavior is equally important for providers and the end users.  From an Information Science point of view, four approaches in designing information retrieval systems were identified as system-...

A context-sensitive dynamic role-based access control model for pervasive computing environments

Resources and services are accessible in pervasive computing environments from anywhere and at any time. Also, due to ever-changing nature of such environments, the identity of users is unknown. However, users must be able to access the required resources based on their contexts. These and other similar complexities necessitate dynamic and context-aware access control models for such environmen...

A XML based, User-centered Privacy Model in Pervasive Computing Systems

The fact that pervasive systems are typically embedded and invisible makes it difficult for users to know when, where, and how these devices are collecting data. So privacy is a major issue for pervasive computing applications and several privacy models have been proposed for pervasive environments. In this paper we present a XML based User-centered Privacy Model (UPM) which provides content, i...

Rapid Prototyping of Computer Systems: Experiences and Lessons

-Carnegie Mellon University has developed a User-Centered Interdisciplinary Concurrent System Design Methodology (UICSM) that takes teams of electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, computer scientists, industrial designers, and human computer interaction students that work with an end-user to generate a complete prototype system during a four-month long course. The methodology is web-suppor...
